The Crucible 2/3 book

In act two of The Crucible, 14 people have been arrested and accused of withcraft by Abigail and the girls. They accuse people they want and whoever is accussed by them is suspected guilty and put in jail. This shows how much power the girls have gained just due to the fact that every one in salem is scared, including all of the men who are supposed to be leading the town, and will believe anything to make the issue of witchcraft go away.One family in Salem does not believe in all of the witchcraft madness and that is John Proctor and Goody Elizabeth Proctor. John knows that Abigal is making all of her accussations because she told him. When John tells Elizabeth this she losses faith in him knwoing that he and Abigail were alone together. Even though The Proctors tried to stay out of this, their made,Marry Warren, went to a trial and stated that Elizabeths name had come up in the trial. Abigail brought it up because John Proctor and Abigail had an affair and Abigail wants to be with John so she is trying to get rid of Elizabeth. The night Marry Warren came home from the Trial, she had given Goody proctor a doll she had sewn in the trial. A few days later, Ezekiel Cheever and Herrick, town marshal, came to arrest Elizabeth , asking her if she owned a doll. She said no, that she had not owned one since adolecence. Cheever spots the one Marry Warren had given her and finds a needle in it. The evening prior,Reverend Parris had found a needle in Abigails stomach, and Abigail accussed Elizabeth of witch craft. Abigail and the girls have an unusual amount of power for them to be young, unmarried puritain females at this time. They had the power to ruin anyones life whenever they wanted. I feel like this sets a bad example for women and how they would function if given large roles of influence and/or power. This is an example of why men did not "allow" us(women) to have large power roles in society.Also, it seems as if The proctore family is the only ones who have kept a sound ming throughout what has happened so far, but now that Goody Proctore has been arrested and accussed of witchcraft, John may loose his mind as well. Not into believing all the witchcraft madness but by proving all those that have been accussed are innocent, including his wife. Also proving that Abigail and the girls are nothing but liers and frauds.
